Atlas Model Railroad Co.
HO Scale
Alco introduced the S4 in 1950. Like the earlier S2, the S4 was a 1000 horsepower switcher and was designed to replace older steam switchers. Almost 800 were built for North American railroads. The versatility of these locomotives were evidenced by their service in mainline, shortline and industrial railroads. Several are still working in the 2020s and others are preserved in museums and on excursion railroads.
