1/35 Scale
Development of the M551 Sheridan began in 1959 by the US Army as an airborne tank that can float on water and be airdropped from transport aircraft. The body was made of aluminum alloy to reduce weight and the main gun was equipped with a 152mm gun launcher capable of firing anti-tank missiles in addition to regular bullets. From June of 1959 to November of 1970, more than 1,600 tanks were produced. It was put into action for the first time in January 1969 during the Vietnam War, and it demonstrated its power in position attacks using powerful multi-purpose high-explosive rounds. Additional combat-field modifications were made, including the addition of anti-mine armor on the front half of the belly, as well as installation of an M113 large gun shield around the commander's gun, allowing it to be fired with some level of protection.
