The Challenger 2 is a third generation British main battle tank. Successor to the Challenger 1 of Gulf War fame, the Challenger 2 features a redesigned turret with Chobham armor, a 120mm rifled gun and electronics upgrades such as a firing control system. Deployment with units began in 1998, and in the Iraq War from Spring 2003 it was fielded by the 7th Armoured Brigade "Desert Rats." It has a crew of four, including commander, gunner, loader and driver. It is one of the most protected tanks in the world.
